Statement No. 4
Dogs have cute and natural ways of
showing their affection for us. They often will either try to lick us or raise a
paw toward us.

Try again!
Yippee, you're
right! Anyone who thinks this is true is flattering himself! The dog
learns what licking means from his mother, whose licking causes him to have
a bowel movement and to urinate as a very young puppy! The puppy learns
"paw-raising" as a submissive sign of "objection" to his mother's licking
him. Many pups, new in a home, will soon either be raising their paws or
urinating as a learned-reaction. Therefore, the dog who "licks" us may be
trying to dominate, soothe, or control us, and the paw-raising dog is often
objecting to us!
