Statement No. 10
In order for the larger breeds of dogs to
be healthy and physically fit, more room is needed to run free, either in a
large yard or out around the neighborhood.
Guess again.
Surprise!
Ever wonder how the Australian wild Dingo dogs live to be exceptionally old
in the cramped quarters of your local zoo? How about elephants in the zoo? A
common misconception of the dog's requirement for "running room" can be
vastly harmful to the dog and the owner, too. The answer is that the dog who
gets less opportunity for exercise should be fed a lesser amount than one
who has a more natural area for exercise. People who turn their dogs out
into the neighborhood to run freely, mix with other dogs and mess up other's
property are creating problems for their neighbors and themselves.
