Statement No. 11
A new puppy needs to feel loved and wanted.
One of the most effective ways to do this is to pick him up and stroke him when
he seems to need affection.
Negative.
Right!
The practice of picking up the puppy might seem effective at the time.
However, it leads to ultimate frustration for the dog and the owner at later
times when the owner doesn't want to pick him up of when the dog is too
large to be picked up. A better answer is to do something with him like
rolling a ball for the puppy and then kneeling down to praise him heartily
for his reactions, petting him and telling him he is a good dog as he
succeeds.
